Recipes for Recipes: A Lone Bookbinder’s Search for the Stories about Food, Family, and Culture in Columbia is an online exhibition by SVAD and Stormwater Studios Artist in Residence, Evelyn Wong.

III. Bookbinding

I had expected to have some pass-time while at this residency because it would be inevitable that there would be days between some of the interviews and I would need a break periodically from working on the project. In order to fill in the blanks, I brought a variety of materials with me to work on products for Fireball Bookbindery, my still-fairly-new business. Fireball Bookbindery specializes in handmade journals, notebooks, and sketchbooks featuring mostly Asian bookbindings, textiles, and papers. One of the things I realized while here at Stormwater is that with the start of spring and warmer weather, I was able to take photographs of my handmade creations outside. While I typically consider myself to be a horrible photographer, I was determined to take advantage of my environment to practice my product photography. It certainly taught me that lighting and placement is everything!

Fireball Bookbindery is on Instagram, Facebook, and Etsy.
