SVAD Studio at Stormwater Studios

The School of Visual Art and Design at the University of South Carolina occupies a studio space inside of Stormwater Studios, on the west edge of university campus.

The SVAD Studio provides essential studio space for students, faculty members, and visiting artists and community members to develop new work, lead workshops, give educational talks, and host exhibitions. We’ve designed our studio to be an ideal working environment for artists to test new ideas and experiment with materials. Our studio space joins the flexibility of a workspace with the simplicity of a gallery to also meet our exhibition needs.

The SVAD Studio is where bright thoughts and ideas are communicated to listeners and visitors during workshops, seminars, and lectures. Through the SVAD Studio, we run an Artist Residency Program for nationally ranked artists several times a year. The SVAD Studio gives our artists the necessary space to pursue new concepts and designs, and connects our students and visitors to the professional artists who work in the 10 other studios.

As a community-facing extension of the School of Visual Art and Design, we value a diverse range of voices and backgrounds, and aim to enrich and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the Columbia arts community.

Join us for our openings and exhibitions to learn more about our project and mission.

Support for our work is funded through a grant by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation fund at the Central Carolina Community Foundation.

Support Our Students

We need your support. We’ve launched a campaign to continue our beyond-the-classroom initiative, which gives our students the opportunity to experience what it means to produce and exhibit art outside of the classroom.

Would you consider making a donation? Any amount helps us develop programming and provide ongoing support to our students.
