Emma DeLoughry is a master’s student in the Earth and Environmental Resource Management program. Her documentary film, Macroplastics in South Carolina Waters: Connecting the Midlands to the Coast” was created in affiliation with media arts courses MART 571B and MART 701 in Spring 2021.

Macroplastics in SC Waters: Connecting the Midlands to the Coast" follows a filmmaker’s journey to learn more about the extent of macroplastic pollution in the waterways of South Carolina around two of its metropolitan areas, Columbia and Charleston. Environmental scientists, activists, and everyday citizens educate viewers about the persistence of plastic material in the environment and show how the accumulation of plastic litter causes significant environmental, wildlife and community damage.
